A smart rural community uses broadband networks to enable a series of applications that the community can leverage for innovative economic development and commerce, top-notch education, first rate health care, cutting edge government services, enhanced security and more efficient utility use.

Broadband networks that are currently being built by rural telephone companies are economic engines for the entire community. These networks are enabling a wide range of applications that meet consumer, business, government and institutional needs. Broadband networks are the foundation for Smart Rural Communities.
